How to identify your engine or drive type
The Mercruiser engine identification plate is typically located on the engine block, near the starter motor or close to the flywheel housing. You may also find this information on the carburettor cover (flame arrestor) or rocker cover. For the sterndrive serial number, check the upper driveshaft housing on both the rear face and one side. The transom shield housing serial number is similarly marked on the upper surface.
